Shaken by his confrontation with the pirates, Luke Skywalker leaves Rynn Zenat behind to pursue information on a dangerous artifact. Meanwhile Leia Organa attempts to keep the nascent New Republic together amidst the rising chaos of a newly freed galaxy!

This second issue is a Luke-focused issue, as he ditches his New Republic comrades to fly to a remote planet populated by the Nagai species. What Alex Segura is illustrating here is that Luke is still trying to figure out what his role is in this new order. One of my apprehensions about this series was that Luke still seemed to be tied to the New Republic, when I felt he should be moving beyond and be on his own. It seems, at this point at least, that Segura is showing how Luke began to break off from the New Republic, and it will be interesting to see if I am correct or not.

The other interesting part of this issue is how Luke interacts with the Nagai on Gadrilam. His confidence is there, but there’s still the shadow of doubt of his place in the galaxy and his relationship with those around him. He has not yet decided to restart the Jedi Order, and so his position is not set in the same way that it will be when we see him in The Mandalorian. His interactions with these people paint him as someone confident, but that confidence lands him in trouble and causes potentially disastrous consequences.

It will be interesting to see how Segura and Noto continue to build this story up. The next issue seems to be focused on Han Solo, so I am guessing we will be jumping around a bit on perspectives over this first story arc, with Leia coming after Han. I’m excited to see how Segura handles the shifting perspectives and builds this story out, populating this era of the galaxy.
