Stranded behind enemy lines on Nar Kaaga, Poe Dameron and BB-8 have discovered that the mysterious ‘Codebreaker device’ is actually a young Muun genius girl. Now, he will have to navigate behind enemy lines and improvise a way to save both himself, his droid and this girl and get them all back to the Resistance.

This issue was delayed a few weeks, so it’s been more than a few weeks since the first issue was published. But the issue itself is largely a fun romp with three characters being forced into a position where they have to work together. It honestly feels a lot like an episode of Star Wars: Resistance. It’s got the same tone and general feel as the animated show. There’s even a cameo from a character you may recognize from the show, which for a timeline nerd like myself is nice to see but it helps place the story.

Regardless of that, the issue is fun and filled with hijinks typical of more child-geared stories. Poe himself is definitely dumbed down from the character we see in things like Marvel’s Poe Dameron series, but he’s definitely still there. Poe’s interactions with Cheka, the young Muun genius, are fun, but pretty archetypal and one-dimensional. All of the criticisms I have about the issue are pretty blunted by the fact that this is a comic for kids. And for that, it’s perfectly serviceable.
